WHEN I PRINT THE WEB SITE IT RUNS OFF
THE PAGE |
After the site redesign in 2007 it
became wider. There are two solutions:
- Change your Page Setup settings
to Landscape (vs.. Portrait).
- If you are using Internet
Explorer 7, use Print Preview (File-> Print Preview) and then select
Shrink to Fit from the menu bar.

HOW CAN I FIND MY SHIPMATES WHO ARE HERE? |
|
The best is to use the Deck Log. Post
about yourself in the "Deck Log" section and post about people for whom
you are looking in the "Looking for Shipmates" section. Know that you
must register and sign in to see those and other sections.

HOW
DO I CONTRIBUTE PICTURES AND ARTIFACTS TO THE WEB SITE? |
| Additions
to the site are always welcome! If you are sending pictures, please
ensure you provide captions, dates, names and other information that
will allows other to know more about each picture.
If
you have a scanner, simply scan the items and send them. however please
use the following guidelines:
- Scan
at 100 dpi or higher, Full Color (True Color)
as large as you can get them!
- Save
in GIF or JPG (preferred) format.
- Ensure
the scans you send are the best they can be so that they will look
good on the web site.
- Use
file names that are somewhat descriptive so I
know what they are.
- Provide
captions for each file in a separate text file or in the text of
your e-mail message. Give the file name and then what text should
appear with it.
- When
possible use Zip software to create one, much smaller file that
you will then e-mail. Good and easy to use Zip software can be
obtained at http://www.winzip.com.
- Send
the file(s) to dennis@obriens.net

HOW
CAN I CONTRIBUTE STORIES OR ARTICLES TO THE SITE? |
Write
them! Though there is little of this sort of thing on the web site
today, it would greatly enhance the web site to include stories about
the ship and those who served on board her. To submit them simply write
them and follow the following guidelines.
- Use
word processing software to write them. This software must be
compatible with Microsoft Word or saved in HTML or RTF.
- Include
pictures, diagrams and such if you like.
- When
possible use Zip software to create one, much smaller file that
you will then e-mail. Good and easy to use Zip software can be
obtained at http://www.winzip.com.
- Send
the file(s) to dennis@obriens.net

DECK LOG VS. ON LINE CREW??? |
On Line Crew
The
On Line Crew is simply how we keep track of contact information for
distributing reunion information and e-mail notifications. This data is
collected confidentially so that those who wish to remain anonymous can do so
but still be a part of the information stream. To join the On Line Crew, there
is no password, just a form to submit data. Not being a member of On Line Crew
does not preclude one from using the web site or participating in any way but
it does mean you’ll not be informed of USS England events and news. Keeping
you On Line Crew data is simple, just fill in the form if you want to sign up
or there are changes you need made.
You can access the One Line Crew Form here:
http://crew.ussengland.org/
The Deck Log
The
Deck Log is an on line forum. Portions of the forum can be viewed by all.
However, much of it is only viewable by individuals you have “registered,”
basically signing up and obtaining a user name and password. Signing up for
the Deck Log does not sign one up for On Line Crew. What signing up does do is
enable you to log on to the Deck Log, read everything and to post. This is the
place to post about yourself so shipmates can find you, look for shipmates and
also to talk about everything, even off topic subjects. Please sing up and sue
this tool!!!
When you sign up for the Deck Log it will send you a verification e-mail.
Follow the instructions for activating your Deck Log account. If you receive
one mentioning the COPPA Act, it means you selected that you were under 13
years of age and you should e-mail Dennis O’Brien it fix that for you.
If you have any problem signing up or using the Deck Log, please contact me,
Dennis O’Brien (dennis@obriens.net). I can help with almost any issue. The goal is to ensure your
experience is the best it can be when talking about the ship, reuniting with
old friends and just enjoying the site.
You can access the Deck Log here:
http://forum.ussengland.org
The important thing to remember is that, at least for now, the
Deck Log and On Line Crew are not the same thing. Sign up for both!
