May 2009

MAY IS USS ENGLAND
DE635 MONTH!
As
you know in late May of 1944 USS England DE-635 sunk six enemy submarines in a
period of just 12 days, a feat that has never been surpassed.
This month the officers and crew of DE-635 had their
reunion at USS Slater and Albany New York! This ship is very much like that on
which they served and it certainly brought back memories I am sure.
As you go to work, go through your day or sit with your family
and friends, please share the
history of USS England DE-635 with those around you. It is important that it
continues and is passed on. It is also import that we return ENGLAND to the seas.
Please know that Ray Mabus, former Mississippi governor and
U.S. ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, was sworn in May 19, 2009 as the
75th secretary of the Navy. This means we have a new person to convince! It is
time to write those letters, again!

MEMORIAL PLAQUE NEEDS YOUR HELP TODAY!
Donations have been a little slow for our Memorial Plaque
Project. As you know Steve Joyce volunteered to head this project that was
initiated by RADM Hugh Webster USN (Ret) at our last reunion. Steve has done an
excellent job and we need to back him up and send in our donations. Please help.
